House of Spice is an immersive lantern-lit tea-house experience created by Meg Dowdell and Niq Reefman. Blending live acoustic soundscapes, handmade ceramics and nourishing drinks, they transform a canvas tent into a warm village parlour where festival-goers can rest, connect and participate. Gentle duduk melodies, drones, chai, cacao and conversation create an atmosphere that sits somewhere between performance, installation, lounge room and community hearth.
Niq Reefman
Niq Reefman is an “experience” designer and festival artist whose work blends the folk mindset with theatrical storytelling and playful musical invention. A regular performer at festivals across Australia, he has appeared at events including the National Folk Festival and Woodford Folk Festival, where he featured in the 2026 Closing Ceremony. He is also a regular featured performer at Andrew Clermont's Supper club in Tamworth. As creator of the interactive Silkwood Wagon and a sought-after freelance performer on trumpet, duduk, accordion and vocals, Niq specialises in creating welcoming, participatory spaces where music becomes a shared experience.
Meg Dowdell
Meg Dowdell is a potter, homesteader, wildlife woman and healthy eating advocate.
She has operated a profitable wholefoods cafe/market for many years, run a homestead with milking goats, chooks, llamas, sheep and geese - selling cheese, making custom cakes & slices while raising 2 children.
She has many wholefood recipes that are loved and remembered by the community.
Attending NFF for the second time, she has been inspired to add to the festival experience and help to create the vibrant folk atmosphere that makes us all return each year.
